[MIDGAR GENERAL INFORMATION]

Midgar is the capital city and power base of the Shin-Ra Electric Power Company.

A large circular structure supported above the ground by eight reactors and a central pillar. On top of the structure lies the city proper, divided into eight sectors, while underneath it on the ground lies a large slum; created by the city's unfortunate and downtrodden. Midgar was the most technologically advanced location ever constructed on the Planet.

Governed as a police state, the city is home to some of the richest and most powerful men and women on the planet, who run most of the city's affairs from the central Shin-Ra Building which dominates the cityscape. Among these people are the Shin-Ra executives, the de facto world leader, President Shin-Ra, and the figurehead city leader, Mayor Domino.

Construction of the city began in 1976, to provide residence for the Shin-Ra Electric Power Company's growing investment and employment base, and at present still remains unfinished.
Thanks to its eight Mako Reactors, the city's massive power-demands were easily met, but at a cost to the surrounding countryside, which has become a barren wasteland due to the city sapping the surrounding Mako energy. Due to this, the city and its reactors are a prime target for terrorism/rebel groups like AVALANCHE who seek to restore the planet to its former state and stop Shin-Ra from sapping its life energy.

[LAYOUT OF MIDGAR]

Described as a "technological pizza", the city is divided up into nine sectors; Sectors 1 through 8 all refer to the eight districts of the city, with Sector 0 being the central district which holds the main headquarters of Shin-Ra. Each Sector has a Mako Reactor, a plate, and a slum.
Access to the ground-level slums can only be achieved either via the city's train system(which requires a valid ID to ride) or via hidden paths threaded throughout the city's sewer system. An additional secret city, only known as Deepground, is located below both Midgar and the Slums, only accessible via the Sector 0 reactor.

The Sectors not mentioned are still under construction, as the city of Midgar hasn't been completed.

UPPER PLATE

Built above the slums, the rich citizens of Midgar reside on the plates. Many shops and fancy restaurants may be found here as well.

SECTOR 0: Above-ground, The Shin-Ra Headquarters dominates the Midgar skyline from Sector 0. Below, it is the main base for Deepground. The area seems to be a war-torn city with burned ruins of buildings. Though it is entirely underground, there is enough space above for helicopters to fly. Above, there is no sky, only an empty blackness that looks similar to night. The Sector 0 Reactor is located here.

SECTOR 1: One of the eight Sectors that divides the city of Midgar. Sector 1 is the link zone between Sector 5 and Sector 8 via Train.

SECTOR 4: One of the eight Sectors that divides the city of Midgar. Sector 4 is the link zone between Sector 6 and Sector 7 via Train.

SECTOR 5: One of the eight Sectors that divides the city of Midgar. There is a residential area, shops and restaurants.

SECTOR 6: Construction of the Sector 6 plate was never finished, though the train still runs through where a plate would be located.

SECTOR 7: One of the eight Sectors that divides the city of Midgar. There is a residential area, shops and restaurants.

SECTOR 8: One of the 8 Sectors that divide up the city of Midgar, located just outside the Shin-Ra headquarters. Sector 8 is the main entertainment area in Midgar. LOVELESS Avenue is its main area of business and art. There the Genesis fan-club meets and performances of the ancient epic LOVELESS take place.

GROUND LEVEL

A large slum that developed underneath the elevated city, the Midgar Slums are a warren of desperation and underhand/criminal activity. Plants do not grow here, and you cannot see the sky.

SECTOR 1: One of the eight Sectors that divides the city of Midgar. Filled with rubble and mobile homes.

SECTOR 4: One of the eight Sectors that divides the city of Midgar. Filled with rubble and mobile homes.

SECTOR 5: One of the eight Sectors that divides the city of Midgar. The homes here are of a higher quality, but rubble still fills this Sector. A girl grows flowers in a broken down church, and her residence also has many different plants and flowers. There is a park outside of the sector, where there's an abandoned playground themed after hamsters.

SECTOR 6: One of the eight sectors that make up Midgar. The plate is still under construction, so much of the Sector 6 slums are in a state of ruin, with monsters running rampant and large chunks of debris littering the ground (some of which provide useful walkways to traverse the ravaged landscape). Some parts of the Sector 6 slums, however, seem to be relatively unaffected by the construction, namely the Wall Market and the Sector 6 park(Green Park). The Wall Market is a shopping center found in Sector 6. It is famous for its dangerous "red light district" atmosphere run by the local crimelord, Don Corneo. In addition to this, there are many restaurants, a gym, a clothing store, a pub, a pharmacy and many other useful stores.

SECTOR 7: One of the eight sectors of Midgar. The sector is filled with poorly built buildings. The most prominent location is Tifa Lockhart's 7th Heaven bar.

SECTOR 8: One of the eight Sectors that divides the city of Midgar. Filled with rubble and mobile homes.
